The Phase-Contrast X-Ray CT System, first developed in Japan, was installed at ICC, enabling advanced structural analysis of composite materials.

The phase-contrast X-ray CT system can observe micro defects and fractures inside composite material moldings and analyze fiber orientation, which was difficult with conventional X-ray CT devices. Shimadzu Corporation developed and manufactured the device, and ICC conducted joint research on its application to the structural analysis of composite materials. The first product was installed at the ICC in March. Research on fiber structure analysis, product design, and molding process optimization will be promoted using phase-contrast X-ray CT systems in the future.
